VOLUNTEER GRAVEDIGGERS
Hard hit by the Covid epidemic, Belgium buries its dead. In Brussels, the only multi-faith cemetery in Evere is overwhelmed by the influx of Muslim dead.
Adolescents, adults, retirees, all lend a hand by digging graves and accompanying families in their mourning. This solidarity, in the respect of funeral rites, is a pledge of trust for families of the Muslim faith.

Because of the health ban, these bodies cannot be repatriated by the families to their country of origin, as tradition requires. In order to ensure the best possible daily burials, the three gravediggers of the cemetery are assisted by a dozen Muslim volunteers.
