During the festivals Les Ardentes and Pukkelpop, 4,300 young “instant” couples said “yes” for a day under the flowered arch of Plan Belgium. Upon leaving, they received a coloured ring, a marriage certificate, and a photo to immortalise their union. The message conveyed by this romantic gesture is that, within the time of this “minute marriage”, 27 girls under the age of 18 are married in the world, without any choice in the matter.
